Party in the Park finale a huge night

rganizers of Party in the Park couldn't be happier with how the community responded to the eight weekly mini-fests held throughout the summer at Central Community Park and the community couldn't ask for more from the Business Improvement Association and of people who put the series of events together.

On Friday, estimates of 5000 people transformed the normally serene downtown Chilliwack park at the corner of Young Rd. and Victoria Ave. into a throbbing mass of happy toe tappers who came to listen to bands and solo artists on the Coast Capital stage like Nikki Werner, Steve Elliott "Elvis Elite" & The Blue Suede Boys, Hayley Maclean, Dean Brody and Pardon My Striptease perform.

Debbie Biggin, BIA Party in the Park organizer, told the Voice that the park was at capacity last Friday and if the event gets any larger, they aren't sure what they'll do, or if they'll have to change venues in order to accommodate the people as the event makes further strides in popularity.

Mayor Sharon Gaetz spoke from the stage, praising the efforts of the BIA and volunteers who worked tirelessly putting together the events over the summer.

Also on Friday, O'Connor Dodge Chrysler-Jeep sponsored the Sunset Cruisin' open car show which saw collector cars parked up and down Mill St. and Victoria Ave.

The BIA placed the bar high with the Party in the Park events this year so it's difficult to imagine them setting more precedents, but they say they are going to give it their best shot again next year.

Volunteers were treated to an appreciation dinner Monday.
