n Wednesday, Kathy Funk, Executive Director of the Downtown Business Association and Jessica, BIA Events Coordinator appeared on 98.3 StarFm to talk about the upcoming Customer Appreciation Day.

People love it and want more of it and the perennially popular shopping event is once again descending on the downtown core. Each time the BIA holds the event it becomes more popular.

In previous years, shoppers have been able to pop balloons or draw numbers from a basket, however this year they'll be spinning the Mr. Lube wheel for their gifts.

How it works is that people shop in their favourite stores downtown, spend $25, then bring the receipt to Five Corners where they can spin to claim a prize donated by local merchants.

"It's pretty simple, you come, shop downtown at one of your favourite stores anywhere in our downtown area, spend at least $25 and then come to the tent, see me, show your receipt and you get to spin," said Jessica.

Even though the wheel-spinning won't actually begin until 11am, its a good idea to get started early and get in the prize wheel lineup because there will only be 60-70 gifts up for grabs in total. Not to worry though, the gifts are worth a minimum of $25 and some are worth four-times that.

The event will also feature busker Jacob Pierce who will be entertaining throughout the day.

Also on Saturday, The Bookman is celebrating their 20th Anniversary at the store on Wellington Ave. and have activities and sales throughout the day. It's a good opportunity for the community to buy local and throw their support behind businesses downtown.

"Many of the stores will have specials on as well, so they are looking for you to come and they've got in-store deals as well, so it's not just about receiving a gift of appreciation," said Funk. "It can be as simple as taking a friend out for a coffee and muffin at Starbucks."

If you're up early Saturday, head on downtown, sip a cup of fresh Decades coffee and have some fun.

For more information regarding participating stores, visit the BIA's website: www.downtownchilliwack.com  or ask staff at Clock Tower tent Saturday morning.
