Williams St. House Fire Claims Pet

Resident suffered minor burns to feet and arm and loses home

One man was injured and two other occupants escaped unharmed Friday at a fire at this Williams St. home however the family pet perished and the residents were displaced.

 

he City of Chilliwack Fire Department attended to a single story residential structure fire on Friday, May 20, 2011 in the 9200 block of Williams Street at approximately 1900 hours.

 

Upon arrival of fire crews the bungalow style home, approximately 700 square feet, was fully involved.

Crews contained the fire quickly before it extended to a detached two car garage. There is major structural damage to the home and its contents were fully consumed.

One victim, in the home at the time of the fire, received minor burns to his feet and his right arm. He was transported to Chilliwack General Hospital by BC Ambulance crews. Two others at home when the fire erupted escaped unharmed. A family pet also perished in the fire.

Emergency Social Services were dispatched to provide accommodation for the residents. There were no firefighter injuries.

The cause of the fire is unknown and is under investigation by both RCMP and Fire Department Officials.
