Released by Asst. Chief Ian Josephson, Chilliwack Fire Dept./Voice photos

t 5:46 pm last night (Wednesday), firefighters from Chilliwack firehalls 1, 4 and 6 responded to a structure fire in the 7000 block of Eden Drive.

When firefighters arrived they discovered heavy fire and smoke venting from the roof and garage door of a one storey, single family residential house. The fire was also starting to extend into the adjacent cedar trees.

Firefighters managed to confine the fire before it extended into the house or the neighbor’s home. There was extensive fire and smoke damage to the attached garage/workshop area with very minor smoke damage to the house.

The male and female owners had safely evacuated their home after discovering the fire and calling 9-1-1.

There were no firefighter injuries.

Emergency Social Services (ESS) responded to the scene and provided accommodation for the homeowners.

Cause of the fire is still under investigation but is considered accidental.
