BC Ambulance paramedics load cyclist injured on Yale Rd.

man on a bicycle was struck by a vehicle in the 45000 block of Yale Rd. shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday.

Weather was not a contributing factor, despite a rainfall warning issued by Environment Canada.

According to  Cpl. Len vanNieuwenhuizen of the Chilliwack RCMP Upper Fraser Valley Regional District, the cyclist was at fault and actually riding on the wrong side of the road and failed to heed a stop sign when hit.

"The cyclist sustained minor non life-threatening injuries," said Len vanNieuwenhuizen in an e-mail to The Voice.

The man was taken to Chilliwack General Hospital and Police eventually re-opened the arterial route.

Cyclists need to take extra precautions when riding in inclement weather and should never assume they can be seen by drivers.
