Driver survives spectacular crash Sunday

A woman suffered non-life threatening injuries after taking out a tree on Carleton St. Sunday.

t was in the middle of a thunder and lightning storm Sunday and rain was hammering the city, when a van traveling south in the 9500 block on Carleton St. inexplicably left the road, jumped a curb in and careened across a front yard before slamming head-on into a tree.

The accident, which happened at approximately 8:30 p.m., looked horrendous, but luckily the van's sole occupant, a woman, miraculously escaped serious injury. Air bags deployed which likely helped save her.

Speed may have been a factor because the force of the accident uprooted the tree which then landed on the van's roof. The tree was from the yard north of where the van ended up.

A responder on the scene told The Voice the woman, whose head was bandaged, was going to be alright.

First Responders and BC Ambulance Service Paramedics were on the scene within minutes and stabilized the victim before whisking her away to Chilliwack General Hospital.
