New Hires Bring Raft of Talent

he Chilliwack Arts Council is excited to welcome their summer staff, who will be teaching a variety of fun-filled camps for children throughout July and August:

Jessie Whatley, who many will recognize from last year, is back with us again. She recently finished her 2nd year at UFV, where she studied Theatre and French. This September Jessie will be moving to Toronto to study Musical Theatre at Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts. Aside from working with us last summer, she also has experience volunteering at the oncology camp: Camp Goodtimes.

Becka Andrews recently completed her first year of the Arts and Cultural Management program at MacEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta. Becka has numerous years of performing arts experience, on and off stage, as well as experience working in an all-ages daycare where she received her childhood development assistant certificate.

Winnie Chen graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Arts at UFV and has 5 years of trained discipline in painting, print-making and photography. In the past she has worked tutoring art in schools, community centers and private homes. This fall she will be returning to school to pursue her teaching certificate and work towards a masters in Visual Arts.

Upcoming summer camps include:

Crayon Crew (Ages 3 - 6) - Fun and creatively themed arts and crafts classes!

Tuesdays & Thursdays, 9:00 - 11:00am

Members $15, Non-Members $20 each week


Kreative Kidz (Ages 7 - 10) - Challenging and fun arts and crafts projects!

Tuesdays & Thursdays, 1:00 - 3:00pm Members $15, Non-Members $20 each week


Crafty Chefs (Ages 5 - 9) - Workshops for kids who love to be in the kitchen!

Wednesdays, 1:30 - 3:30pm

Members $15, Non-Members $20 each week


Drama Camp (Ages 7 - 12) - Kids will learn about theatre arts, and put on a show for family and friends!

Monday – Friday, 10:00am - 3:00pm

*Two camps available: July 22 – 26 and/or August 19 – 23

Members $80, Non-members $100


Along with kid’s camps we also have some exciting adult and teen classes to offer this summer:


• Cooking with Carmen (a series of healthy cooking classes) with Registered Holistic Nutritionist and Personal Chef Carmen Daigle,

• Memoir Writing with local author Glenda Standeven,


• Adult Watercolour with artist Patricia Jaster, Summer Up-Do’s with make-up and hair artist Kym Elderkin,


• Digital Photography for Beginners/ Intermediate with photographer Ken Bramble


• Acting Outright Theatre with actor/ director Linda McRae.

Classes run throughout the summer, beginning in July, and pre-registration is required.
