Party in the Park Just Costs More

Funk: Our budget increase is 18.5% over last year

Submitted by Kathy Funk, Chilliwack BIA

ur budget increase is 18.5% over last year. This reflects the City's new requirement of adding professional flaggers, delivery costs for barricades and fencing which we never paid for in the past.

In the early years we were able to have community musicians who were willing to play for free and are asking to be paid now. (we have a website dedicated to capturing local entertainers)

The cost of stage and sound has increased over 4,000 this year due to the growth of the audience at an incredible 85% over the previous year.

With 33 sponsors to date, a new one yesterday at 2,500. and three more appointments tomorrow, I am confident the community will come through. Also, I have approached six national firms only to find out our population base doesn't fit their criteria.

We are so glad you are engaged in the vision of Chilliwack's premier community event and winner of the Best in the West award for Western Canada.

Editors Note: BIA Executive Director Kathy Funk is planning on making a presentation at the next City Hall council meeting June 18.
