2012 Woman of the Year

Soroptimists select Chilliwack Hospice volunteer Lee White

Lee White accepts an award for her community work from Mayor Sharon Gaetz.

ayor Sharon Gaetz attended the annual Soroptimists International of Chilliwack Woman of the Year banquet April 25th that honours women who have made a difference in the community.

This year, Soroptimists chose Chilliwack resident Lee White as their Woman of the Year.

"It was amazing the kinds of friends and family came out. There were all kinds of people from the community who came out to say a thank you to Lee for the work that she's done," Gaetz said.

"She had guests that came from far away as well. A doctor in particular who came to honour her for her work. Lee has just been very instrumental in helping people that are less fortunate."

"Her main contribution in the city of Chilliwack of course has been the hospice and we're all very grateful. No one ever wants to be in a place where they're in need of Lee's encouragement, but Lee was there when people really needed her and still doing the same."

"She has demonstrated outstanding life achievements and amazing contributions to our community and all of which exemplify the meaning of the award that Soroptimists gave to her on that evening."

Gaetz thanked White on behalf of council and staff and presented her with an award in the form of a plaque from the City.

"We're all just really proud that you're a member of our community and we're grateful"
