Band and the Cariboo Regional District announced that the
Evacuation order for Williams Lake, Sugarcane and
surrounding area has been downgraded from an order to an
Evacuation Alert. Not all areas of the Cariboo Regional
District have been downgraded, please ensure your community
does not still remain under evacuation order prior to

safety, we ask you stay out of evacuated areas until you are
notified that it is safe to return.
Residents returning to Williams Lake may do so via Highway
97 from the north and south. Checkpoints will remain in
place at key entry points into the city to ensure an orderly
and safe re-entry. No entry to areas remaining under
evacuation order will be permitted.
Be prepared for significant delays on travel routes.
RCMP are being supported by Canadian Armed Forces personnel,
who will ensure information is provided that ensures your
safety as you return to your community. These military
personnel are assisting the RCMP to allow the RCMP the
flexibility to assist in your re-entry and focus on core
The RCMP have been patrolling evacuated areas 24 hours a
day, 7 days a week to detect and deter criminality. Anyone
who has concerns upon return to their home, are encouraged
to report any issues to the non-emergency line for the
Williams Lake RCMP at 250-392-6211. We appreciate your
continued patience and cooperation as you return to
respective homes and communities. Your safety remains a
priority for us.
We understand evacuees from areas surrounding Williams Lake
are anxious to return home, however Evacuation Orders remain
in place for portions of the Cariboo Regional District. To
avoid congestion and allow local residents and business
owners to have the opportunity to settle back in, please do
not return to the area until Evacuation Orders have been
rescinded in your communities.
