BC Gov't chips in $5000 for Kayak Championships at Tamihi August 1-7

he B.C. Government is contributing $5,000 to support the 2011 Canadian National Whitewater Championships.
The money is coming from the Hosting
BC program, and will help the City of Chilliwack play host to the best canoers
and kayakers from across Canada and the U.S. as they compete for the title of
"The whitewater championship is an exciting way to profile our beautiful Tamihi Rapids; the training ground for the Canadian National Kayak Team. I'm delighted to support this funding to help our community host this world class competition," said Chilliwack-Hope MLA Barry Penner in a press release today.
"We are ideally suited to host sporting events like this. The Hosting BC program is a great way to showcase our province's natural beauty, and help us promote sport and active lifestyles across B.C.,"said Chilliwack MLA John Les in the same release.

Hosting BC funding helps build British Columbia's reputation as a premier event hosting destination.
Additional Information about Hosting BC
The 2011 Canadian National Whitewater Championships will take place August 1-7.
A total of just over $325,000 in grants was approved from the April intake.
Hosting BC focuses on funding competitive level events covered by British Columbia's Provincial Sport Organizations.
Hosting BC was established in the lead-up to the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Originally a partnership between the Government of British Columbia, Tourism British Columbia and 2010 Legacies Now, the program is now managed in partnership between the BC Games Society and the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development.
