Rags to Rock takes a magical history tour of Chilliwack schools February 25-28
Graeme (L) and Jody Peters of Speed Control will be touring Chilliwack schools with their entertaining and interactive Rags to Rock musical production.
ukon rock band Speed Control will be clocking into Chilliwack School District #33 for 9 “Rags to Rock” shows in 5 days kicking-off on February 25th at AD Rundle.
The show, billed as "super fun, super catchy, and super pop", weaves songs, humor and history together into a bouncy 50-minute joyride with teachers Ian March, Graeme Peters and his brother Jody behind the wheel.
"Speed Control's school performance showcases the evolution of popular music from 1898 to the present in a musical romp through history," said band spokesperson Petrice Brett in an e-mail to The Voice this week.
She says the interactive show is laced with musical trivia and features lots of audience participation.
"They are multi-instrumentalists who are touring musicians and highly trained teachers, who love nothing more than to share their passion and knowledge of music," she said, adding "Speed Control invites students into a musical universe where rhythm reigns."
According to Brett, Cultural Centre executive director Michael Cade is working with the band to bring in a young local female singer who will perform 2 songs with the band.
"It should make things fun and exciting for everyone," she added.
Aside from the live shows, the band also keeps busy with workshops, and 3-5 day Rock Camps for all skill levels. Their workshops focus on skill building on stage and in rehearsal, culminating with a talent showcase.
The Rags to Rock tour is booked through ArtStarts, a not-for-profit organization with a huge talent pool of professional artists who travel to BC schools for performances, workshops, residencies and exhibitions with funding from Artists in Education.
