Man Dies In Excavator Accident

Victim was trapped in a water-filled ditch

freak accident left a man dead after he became trapped in an overturned bobcat excavator in the 43300 block of Lougheed Hwy near Agassiz on Sunday.


The victim's parents noticed their son was missing and launched a search of their property. At around 7:30 P.M. they came across the machine in a water-filled ditch behind a barn structure. It's not known how long the victim was trapped.

Agassiz firefighters, Kent Search and Rescue, BC Ambulance paramedics and the RCMP were all involved in extracting the unresponsive man. Unfortunately, the Medi Vac chopper was grounded due to inclement weather.

The man was given oxygen, and CPR was administered non-stop from the scene to Chilliwack General Hospital, however attempts to revive the man failed.


Family was assisted by Victims Services. The coroner and WorkSafe BC were on scene to investigate by 11:30 P.M.
