hapsody for Two masterfully charms the audience with The Bergmann Duo’s brilliant renditions of classical music in this premiere performance of the Chilliwack Arts & Cultural Centre Society and The Chilliwack Academy of Music’s, Rain Mountain Classical Music Series.

 

Four hands fly over ivory keys as an intimate musical atmosphere is created by this gifted couple producing four hand versions of famous pieces in the Rotary Hall Studio Theatre. Audiences will be treated to this couple’s refreshing exuberance and breathtaking virtuosity February 12, 2012, 2:30 PM at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre. Performing for over two decades together, Elizabeth and Marcel Bergmann have become one of the greatest international star duos in the elite world of pianists. Uniquely eclectic and with a vibrant award winning style, they magically transport the audience into a fantasy world of notes as this duo, sharing one instrument, play music for all it’s worth.

In their four capable hands, the music comes delightfully alive showcasing their close personal and professional relationship. The intimacy of their musical performance, and the way they listen deeply to each other as fellow collaborators, resonates throughout the performance. An exulting experience, their passionate love of music is obvious as this internationally recognized piano team, the Bergmann’s, evoke beautiful sounds.

 

Winners of multiple competitions worldwide, this amazing duo has been producing beautiful music together for over two decades. Performing a wide variety of repertoire and styles, in concert, and with orchestras, they put on a uniquely eclectic program with their dynamic and energetic performance. Best known for their excellent recordings of the piano music of the American composer and pianist, William Bolcom, this distinguished duo-piano team have been accompanied by several North American orchestras, including the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, the New World Symphony and the Canticum Novum of Santa Fe. Dazzling the crowd with the sounds of Rhapsody for Two, brilliant music arrangements and inspirational harmony will mesmerize the audience with this couples creative brilliance. Ranging from the baroque to the contemporary this dual talent will captivate audiences using a wide variety of styles including a slight Jazz influence.

 

This creative duo served as Artistic Directors of The Murray Dranoff International Two Piano Competition and Foundation in Miami in 2005. They also were members of the Calgary based group Land’s End Chamber Ensemble, recipients of the 2005 and 2006 Western Canadian Music Awards for Outstanding Classical Recording. Serving on the faculty at Mount Royal University, the University of Calgary and having been involved in various musical projects at The Banff Centre for the Arts, this couple lives and breathes music.

 

Founding members of the International Piano Quartet their latest two CD releases feature the arrangement for 4 pianos, composed by Marcel, of Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells, and a collection of minimal music for multiple pianos. Marcel and Elizabeth have also produced recordings for the CBC, several stations of the ARD in Germany, and for National Public Radio in the USA. The Bergmann’s, under the direction of composer Robert Craft, (conductor, author, musician, and confidant of Igor Stravinsky) had the opportunity to record Stravinsky’s Les Noces at the famous Abbey Road Studios in London. The CD first appeared on Koch International Classics and was re-released by the world’s leading classical music label, Naxos.

 

Accomplished educators, this pair also contributes to the music industry in multiple ways beyond their status as international duo pianists stars. Marcel is currently Professor of Music at Mohawk College in Hamilton. Committed to supporting the production of new repertoire, the duo has commissioned and premiered several works by Canadian composers such as the talented Allan Gordon Bell and electroacoustic composer John Abram.
