Cottonwood Store Closure Creates Confusion

CD Plus VP Bially promises gift cards will be honoured

Staff/Voice

ast week, erroneous reports were circulating that the recently closed CD Plus at Cottonwood Mall wouldn't be honouring gift cards bought prior to the store going out of business last December.

Yesterday, Dale Bially, VP of Retail Operations for the chain's 35 stores across Canada, responded in an e-mail to the Voice to dispell any rumors that customers would get stiffed.

"Our gift cards can still be used at any other CD Plus in Canada or they can redeem them on our website."

Bially also said that once the decision was made to close the store, they immediately stopped selling the cards and customers were notified.

"All Customers enrolled in our 'Points' program were sent an email letting them know of the closing once it was decided."

Bially said that closing the Cottonwood location was a tough call but had to be done "based on the store's profitability."

The Winnipeg-based company has been reeling for several years from intense online CD and DVD sales competition. Even a resurgence in vinyl has hurt sales. The company had multiple closures in 2009 and 2010 in New Brunswick.

Those who want a gift card refund are asked to call CD Plus at 1-800-263-3472
