t approximately 0030 hours on Friday, February 15, 2013, the Chilliwack Fire Department responded to the report of a working structure fire in the 45000 block of Spartan Crescent in Chilliwack.

Upon arrival of firefighters, smoke was coming from the home and a working fire was evident on the second floor of the two-story, 1970ís, BC box-style home. Firefighters entered the home and were able to quickly control and extinguish a fire in the kitchen. The fire had extended up the wall and displaced a rear window in the home.

Damage to the home is restricted to the kitchen sink area with smoke damage throughout the upper part of the home. The domestic water was disconnected as several water pipes had melted.

The 6 residents of the home, 4 adults and 2 young children, all evacuated safely, including two cats.  All of the occupants were treated at Chilliwack General Hospital for minor smoke inhalation. Emergency Social Services provided accommodation to the family. There were no firefighter injuries.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by fire department officials and is not considered suspicious.
