Ryder Lake homeowners lose garage to blaze

Released by Ian Josephson, Chwk Fire Dept

ust after midnight, firefighters from Chilliwack firehalls 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 responded to a structure fire in the 4900 block of Sherlaw Road in the Ryder Lake area.

Upon arrival, fire crews found a 1 storey, wood frame detached garage and 2 other outbuildings fully Involved. The fire was just starting to extend to the owner’s house when firefighters managed to knocked the fire down.

The female building owner was slightly injured from the heat of the fire while trying to cool the house down with a garden hose. BC Ambulance paramedics treated her on-site and was not transported to hospital.

Firefighters spent most of the night extinguishing hot spots.

There were no firefighter injuries. Fire investigation is ongoing but a possible cause may be related to a  fish smoker igniting nearby combustibles.
