Cessna Pilot Lucky
Search and Rescue called in after ski plane lands on sandbar
A SAR team arrive back at Island 22 Saturday at dusk after reaching the plane on the Fraser River.
ust after 3 P.M. Saturday, Chilliwack RCMP were alerted to a plane down on the north side of the Fraser River in the area of Almeda Dr.
The pilot of the Cessna ski plane, with the call letters CFGTJ, was attempting to lift off the water and return to Pitt Meadows when he ran into trouble and may have hit a sandbar. Fortunately, the pilot was not injured and he was picked up by Chilliwack Search and Rescue teams a short time later.
SAR watercraft teams scrambled from Island 22, had to utilize jet ski boats in order to gain access to the pilot and plane due to shallow water in the area. The plane was left in place until it could be retrieved later.
More details later as they emerge.
