Train Accident Claims Pedestrian

Police on-scene investigating cause

The Young Rd. crossing was closed Wednesday morning as police investigate the accident.

 

n early morning accident Wednesday involving a train claimed the life of a 49-year-old man who was walking on the tracks approximately 200 meters west of the crossing at Young Road.

 

"At this point in the investigation it is not appearing to look suspicious," said Corporal Tammy Hollingsworth in a release. "This clearly is a tragic accident."

 

Police checked with a nearby gas station employee who said that they heard the train's whistle several times just after 5 A.M. but had not seen anyone on foot come into the store.

 

Paramedics attended to the engineer who was shaken up by the accident and by 9:30 A.M. the train was moving the Young Rd. and Broadway crossings.

 

Mounties identified the victim, however they will not be releasing his name until next of kin have been notified.

 

RCMP and CN Police are currently investigating.
