Name Of The Game
RCMP's name the pup contest open to kids coast-to-coast
arents should let their kids know about the RCMP "Name a Puppy" contest taking place now until March 7 for a chance to win prizes like iPods, plus, they'll feel great knowing that a dog in service to the community has their name. RCMP handout
The RCMP's Police Dog Service Training Centre (PDSTC), at Innisfail Alberta a few miles south of Red Deer, have 10 new dogs entering the force. Each year the Mounties ask kids in the communities coast-to-coast to find names for them. Last year the names started with "C" as in; Chase, Cash and Cara. This year the entries need to begin with the letter D using 9 letters or less. So names like Drax, Dolph and Diesel are the direction that the kids may want to go with their entry.
"In 2010, PDSTC's "Depot” Division, received over 9,000 individual entries," said Inspector Lawrence Aimoe, the officer-in-charge of the Centre, yesterday in a press release. "This contest provides a tremendous opportunity for Canadian children to take part in a police program that saves lives and protects their neighborhood."
The deadline to get your entry in is March 7, 2011. The winning names will be announced April 4. Prizes will be given if your name chosen and will be announced on April 4, 2011. Winning names will be chosen by the PDSTC staff. In the event of multiple submissions of the same name, another draw will take place of those entrants. The RCMP will accept more than one entry per household provided that each participant submit one name per postcard.
There's still a chance your name will be used after the draw because puppies happen anytime.
The contest rules:
Contestants can suggest only one name (one entry per person). The name may be for a male or a female pup.
The name must start with the letter "D".
The name must have no more than nine letters.
The name must be one or two syllables.
Contestants must live in Canada and be 16 years old and under.
To enter, contestants must print their name, age, address, telephone number and the suggested name for a puppy on a postcard and mail it to: Attn: "Name the Puppy Contest", Police Dog Service Training Centre, Box 6120, Innisfail, AB T4G 1S8
