All-female standup comedy show is "Herlarious"

rica Sigurdson is a dominating force in the Canadian Comedy scene, a Leo award-winning writer, and event coordinator of GalAffair, making her a triple threat and deserving headliner for I Am Women! Hear Me Laff! coming to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre Tuesday, March 8 at 8pm.

This "herlarious" evening of all female stand-up comedy includes Ardell Fitzpatrick, Rachel Burns, and Marlie Oden, making for a hysterical line-up, sure to kick start a fantastic tradition for Chilliwack and the Chilliwack Cultural Centre.

Globally on March 8, International Women's Day is recognized, highlighting the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. In countries such as China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, International Women‘s Day is a national holiday. Though we still go to work March 8, why not treat yourself to a night out and join in the festivities alongside your best gal pals.

Starring in every comedy festival this country has to offer, plus entertaining Canadian troops in Kandahar, Sigurdson‘s frequent flyer points have quickly added up alongside her rise to stardom. The Vancouver native is thrilled to perform in Chilliwack for the first time, particularly at the new Cultural Centre.

"Theatre shows are almost always good, because people have paid good money," comments Sigurdson. "It‘s not like a comedy club, where you‘re like, 'I hope there‘s not some drunk birthday party.' Very few people go to a theatre show, get hammered and heckle comedians. Plus, a theatre is definitely my dream venue with good lighting and a sound system it feels like a gift.

March 8 ticket holders will also be treated to an extra punch of Canada‘s finest comedy with Ardell Fitzpatrick as the featured comic for the night, sure to bring her fast-paced, pull-no-punches style to the stage. Fitzparick is the founder of the famed The Laff Riot Girls, Western Canada‘s longest running independent stand-up comedy show, and recent winner of the 2010 YWCA Woman of Distinction Award (Arts & Culture).

Creating an absolute A-Team, Rachel Burns is set to be the night‘s opener and is known to be insanely entertaining, earning the coveted Vancouver title, funniest-comic-with-a-day-job. Her awkwardly endearing, brainy style has audiences begging for mercy as she carries on with her nerdy ways.

Not as nerdy but definitely just as hilarious is Marlie Oden as the Master of Ceremonies for the evening. Oden tickles funny bones regularly when performing with The Laff Riot Girls, and specializes in comedy based on her two children and loving husband.

It will be an evening of side-splitting laff-ter, sure to make I Am Women! the stand-up comedy event of the year. Purchase your tickets early before the show is sold out by calling the Centre Box Office at 604-391-SHOW(7469) or visit the friendly agents Monday-Friday 9:30am-9:00pm, Saturday & Sunday 9:30am-5:00pm.
