Motel Hit By Armed Gunman

Police search for the fleet-footed "Black Bandito" after three holdups from Abbotsford to Popkum

The Parkwood Lodge on Young Rd. was the scene of an armed robbery Saturday night.

 

man described as a 6' black, African-American with medium-dark coloured skin, a trimmed beard and short hair walked into the office at the Parkwood Lodge Saturday at 10 p.m. and pulled a gun demanding money.

 

The man ran down Brooks Ave. after leaving the scene of the crime and somehow managed to avoid a dragnet of officers and police dogs. He was last seen wearing a blue zip up jacket, dark blue jeans and a white toque. RCMP may have been able to gather fingerprints from the crime scene to help identify the robber.

Chilliwack/Agassiz, BC: On February 5, 2011, at approximately 10:05 pm, the Chilliwack RCMP responded to a call of a robbery at the Parkwood Motor Lodge located at 8600 Young Street. Approximately 50 minutes later, the Popkum Esso located at 52855 Yale Road East, called to advise they had also been robbed. Police believe the same suspect is responsible for both robberies.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 25 - 35 years of age, 5'10" to 6' 0" tall, black hair, short black beard, and of medium build. At the time of the robberies he was described as wearing a dark coloured zip up hooded jacket (the jacket may have had "Vancouver 2010" written on it), blue jeans and a light colored baseball hat. In one of the incidents the male was seen leaving in a dark red station wagon. The vehicle was last seen headed toward Highway #1. In both robberies, the male produced a hand gun and was provided with an undisclosed amount of money.

The Abbotsford Police Department responded to a similar robbery at approximately 11:20 pm on Sunday, February 6th at the Ramada Inn located in the 3600 block of North Parallel Road. The male suspect involved is believed to be the same male in the above noted incidents. The Chilliwack RCMP and the Abbotsford Police Department are working together in an attempt to identify the male.

The Chilliwack and Agassiz RCMP Serious Crime Units are actively investigating these robberies. Police believe these two robberies were committed by the same male suspect.
