Sprinkler system saves Knight Rd. apartment building

t was a case of a sprinkler doing what it was designed to do on Monday. At approximately 1:30pm, two fire halls responded to a call about a blaze that broke out in a four-storey apartment building in the 45000 block of Knight Rd.

When fire crews arrived, they found that just one room had been affected and the automatic sprinkler system kicked-in and successfully snuffed out the flames. The occupants were safely evacuated however, because of water and smoke damage, Emergency Social Services relocated them to alternate accommodations.

The fire officials considered the fire to be accidental in nature, but it is still under investigation.
