anada Army Run is proud to announce next year’s new event, the Ortona Challenge, commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Ortona, which took place from December 20 to December 28, 1943 during the Second World War. The Ortona Challenge is an opportunity for participants to remember and to honour fellow Canadians who lost their lives during this battle.

It’s not too early to join us in 2018 for our 11th annual run! Registration is open, and don’t forget, Canada Army Run entries could be given as holiday gifts to loved ones. This year’s edition takes place on Sunday, September 23, 2018. For more information, visit www.armyrun.ca or follow Canada Army Run on social media.

Canada Army Run will welcome tens of thousands of participants from across the country to run, walk and roll in this truly unique military-themed community event held in the National Capital Region.

Quick Facts

• The Battle of Ortona took place from December 20 to December 28, 1943 during the Second World War between regiments of the Canadian Army and German paratroopers, in the town of Ortona on the eastern coast of Italy.

• The battle in the heart of Ortona is remembered by our veterans for the intense close- quarter house-to-house and street-to-street fighting, at a cost of more than 1,200 Canadian troops killed and the suffering of Italian citizens during their liberation.

• Canada Army Run, presented by BMO Bank of Montreal, is one of the most inspiring events in the country, where civilians, Canadian Armed Forces personnel and runners of all ages and abilities run, walk and roll together to show their pride as Canadians and as runners.

• Since 2008, Canada Army Run has raised more than $2.6 million in support of Soldier On and Support Our Troops Fund – two Canadian Armed Forces financial support programs that provide assistance to ill and injured soldiers and military families in need.

• The popular Commander’s Challenge, in which participants complete in both the 5K and half marathon events, was inaugurated in 2016 and is back in 2018 for a third year in a row.

• Canada Army Run race weekend offers something for everyone, including a unique opportunity to interact with your Canadian Army.
