'Every Week is Multiculturalism Week'

The Great Sushi Roll-Off

Released by Lynn Gibson, Chilliwack Community Services

April Neave (L) and James Challman (R) along with staff and Chef Yi Chia at the sushi roll-off last week in Chilliwack.

n Open House and “Great Sushi Roll-off” were two activities celebrated at Chilliwack Community Services Immigrant Services office during Multiculturalism Week.

At the Open House, Chef Yi Chia of Chilliwack’s Kasuga Sushi restaurant demonstrated sushi making and in timed heats that followed, competitors had one minute to show off their sushi making skills. The products were later judged by Yi Chia, Community Programs Director April Neave and James Challman, Executive Director for Chilliwack Community Services.

Immigrant Services staff at the Mary Street office are fortunate that every week is Multiculturalism Week for them as they help newcomers in English classes and other settlement services.

These are just two of the more than forty programs offered by Chilliwack Community Services.

The agency is an independent local charity organization with offices downtown and in Sardis. Since 1928 the agency has provided caring community services to create opportunities with people to make positive change in their lives.
