Minister Stephen Harper has named Chilliwack-Fraser Canyon MP, Mark Strahl
Chair of the BC/Yukon caucus, effective immediately.
"I feel honoured and humbled to have been asked by the Prime Minister to
take over this important role," said Strahl. "As a proud British Columbian,
I look forward to taking the concerns of my BC/Yukon colleagues, our
constituents and regional stakeholders to the Prime Minister and our
national caucus colleagues."
As the regional chair for British Columbia and Yukon, Strahl will chair a
weekly meeting of Conservative Members of Parliament and Senators from
across the region, and will also chair the bi-annual BC/Yukon stakeholder
meetings that take place in Vancouver. He will report the work of the
BC/Yukon Caucus to national caucus, and to the Prime Minister.
"The BC/Yukon Conservative caucus is a strong group of outstanding MPs and
Senators, and I am looking forward to working with them in this new
position," said Strahl. "I would also like to take this opportunity to
salute our outgoing chair, Dick Harris (Caribou-Prince George) for his
outstanding leadership of our caucus for the last six years."
In addition to his new duties as BC/Yukon Caucus Chair, Strahl is a member
of the Standing Committee on National Defence and the Standing Committee on
Health. He was elected to the House of Commons on May 2, 2011.
