t was a great weekend to be a hockey kid in Chilliwack. The Downtown Business Improvement Association (BIA), Prospera Centre and the City of Chilliwack closed off Alexander Ave. last Saturday for an afternoon of festive street hockey games.

The event was part of a series of family oriented activities hosted by the BIA downtown throughout the month of December.

First thing in the morning, there was breakfast with Santa and the firefighters at Fire Hall No. 1 on Cheam Ave. Then from there, people made their way over to the pair of improvised rinks on Alexander on board the Rotary Club train where refereed scrimmages were held throughout the afternoon. Santa Claus, a DJ along with some interactive games made the afternoon an enjoyable one for local families. Hockey fans also got free rides on the Fanboni courtesy of Prospera Centre.

The December celebrations wrap up this Saturday from noon to 5 P.M. with a carnival at old Empress Hotel parking lot, featuring a live entertainment stage, carnival rides, holiday movies and other fun stuff for the family to do.
