Firefighters respond to arson fire on Cook St. late Thursday.

ust before 12 A.M. Thursday, a resident of an apartment located in the 9400 block of Cook St. called the fire department to report smoke and the smell of plastic in the bottom floor of the building.

The resident extinguished located the small blaze in a room off the main lobby and managed to extinguish it before the fire department arrived. Once there, the firefighters double-checked to make sure it was out and ventilated the building.

Residents who were out on the street wondered why someone would want to try to burn their building down. It's unclear if police will be investigating and no suspect was arrested at the scene.
