Released by the City of Chilliwack Fire Dept./Voice file photo
he Chilliwack Fire Department will be again holding its 13th Annual Christmas Food Drive in support of the Salvation Army Food Bank on Monday, December 10th from 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Members of the Chilliwack Fire Department and Chilliwack Search and Rescue will be going door-to-door collecting canned and dry-good food donations for the Salvation Army Food Bank. Emergency Social Services and Salvation Army members, along with High Road Academy high school volunteers, will sort and load the collected food at the downtown fire hall. The public is asked to have food items ready for the evening pick-up so that emergency workers can get to as many homes as possible that night.
As it is not possible to get to all households in one night, the Chilliwack Fire Department will gladly accept food donations. Donations will be accepted until December 21at Fire Hall #1, located at the corner of Cheam Avenue and Young Road, Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
In the past the generosity of the community has made this event the single largest food bank donation, taking in over 12,000 food items and several hundred dollars in a single night last year.
The Chilliwack Fire Department is asking for the support of local media and the public in making this year’s food drive a success to help us support the food bank for those less fortunate.
