Black Ice Friday
Slick streets to blame for overpass accident
Chilliwack Firefighters assist BC Ambulance Paramedics Friday.
riday got off to a very rough start for two drivers involved in a collision just before 8 A.M. on the Yale Rd overpass.
Apparently, black ice was to blame for the accident which left both vehicles totaled. Traffic was light at the time of the accident, or it may well have been worse.
Luckily, neither driver was seriously injured, however one remained trapped in the vehicle until BC Ambulance Paramedics, assisted by the City of Chilliwack Fire Department, extracted the woman onto a backboard, then whisked her away to Chilliwack General Hospital a few blocks distant.
Southbound lanes on the overpass were closed until City crews could get the roadway cleared of debris.
Drivers should be aware that during icy conditions, it would be a good idea to slow down and take extra caution, especially when on overpasses and bridge decks during the cold season.
