Livestock perish in barn blaze where the makings of grow-op are found

t approximately 8 pm last night (Saturday), firefighters from Chilliwack fire halls 1, 4 and 6 responded to a barn fire in 6600 block of Prest Road. Upon arrival, crews found a fully involved barn. Firefighting was made difficult when it was made difficult when it was discovered half the barn was being set up as a marijuana grow-op and the walls were reinforced with steel re-bar and other construction materials.

Fire crews managed to control and extinguish the fire around 3am this morning.

There were 30 sheep in the barn at the time of the fire and unfortunately 6 perished. There were no firefighter injuries.

Cause of the fire is under investigation by Chilliwack Fire Department and RCMP fire investigators.
