Migration successful after non-event in 2012
Released by Natashia Cox, FVC/Voice file photo
Western toad migration at Hornby Lake in 2010.
housands of juvenile toads have successfully crossed the roads during their annual migration in the Ryder Lake community in the past few weeks. This was a great relief, as last year almost no juvenile toads migrated. We are still not sure why.
This year volunteers with the Ryder Lake Farmers Institute (RLFI) provided great support in raising community awareness and assisting us with installing voluntary detour signs.
We look forward to continuing to work with RLFI to find solutions that will benefit the “toads crossing the roads” and the community at large.
We would also like to thank the community and visitors for using the voluntary detour routes during this time, and the City of Chilliwack for providing assistance.
