SAR Plucks One From Vedder

Rescuers find woman clinging to log in canal

Staff/Voice photos

ust after 6 P.M. Wednesday the Chilliwack Fire Department received reports of a woman on a log that was drifting down the Vedder River in the vicinity of Lickman Rd.

Witnesses said the woman wasn't wearing a life jacket.

Chilliwack Search and Rescue were quick to respond and launch a vessel and effect the rescue and by 7 P.M. the woman was out of the water and being attended to by paramedics.

Each year people drown in the waterways simply because they weren't wearing a floatation device.

It's a good idea to wear one even when on the riverbanks. People fall in off the bank and are swept away never to be seen alive again.
