Bike Skills Park Delayed

High water level on Fraser River creates construction problems

Released by the FVRD/Voice photos

he Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) has had to postpone the construction of the Island 22 Bike Park project due to elevated water levels on the Fraser River, which remain unusually high for this time of year.

Construction is expected to proceed in early September, or as soon as the water table drops enough to allow heavy equipment to work on the site without damaging the surface.

The FVRD does not anticipate any extra costs associated with the delay and is expecting the project to be completed by late September. We will notify the media when construction resumes.

The work constructed to date wooden jump structures and the perimeter trail - has not been impacted by the high water; once complete, the jumps are expected to withstand similar high water events in the future.

The Hoots Inc. crew will return to continue work on the Island 22 Bike Park project as soon as the site is once again ready for construction.
