ere is an update from Food Matters on how great the 2012 glean is going.

Well, 2 weeks (July 24th - August 7th) since our official 2012 FoodMatters Chilliwack Gleaning Season began... we've completed 23 gleans (24 if you count our Team Leader glean on the 12th of July), gleaning 5333 lbs of locally grown produce (excluding the 289lbs of Okanagan Apricots donated by Minter Country Gardens) with 3125lbs going to various local receiving partners; 6 of the the 7 listed on our website gleaning page www.foodmatterschilliwack.com/gleaning and we've added a bunch for the influx of fruit to make sure it has gone to organizations, families and individuals who could use it!

This is absolutely incredible if you compare it to the last two years totals - seasons that last months... we've surpassed 2010 and are on the tail of 2011 and we're only 2 weeks in... thank you to our donors (home owners) - to the gleaning volunteers - too our other 2 team leaders - Claire Raines and Peter Whitlock and to our receiving partners - what an amazing community we live in! Chilliwack - a place that values home grown food!

2010 - 21 gleans
4431 lbs harvested which may have otherwise gone to waste
3344 lbs were donated to our recipient partners

2011 - 30 gleans
6582 lbs harvested which may have otherwise gone to waste
3907 lbs were donated to our recipient partners

2012 - 23 gleans (so far...)
5333lbs harvested which may have otherwise gone to waste
3125lbs donated to our recipient partners thus far

AWESOME WORK GLEANING TEAM!
