A Taste of the Country
Greendale Sampler has 14 stops within a 5 minute drive August 25
Released by Holly McKeen, Greendale
his quaint farming community of “Greendale” (just west of Chilliwack) invites Fraser Valley neighbours to come visit and see exactly where your local farm produce & products come from, while enjoying tours and demos, and chatting with the producers.
As we continue to Share the Spirit of our Community with our Greendale Country Sampler tour again this year, you’ll find even more tours, demos, prizes and activities than ever before!
We have fourteen stops all within five minutes drive, on the Sampler Tour this year, with so much to discover: market gardens, soaps, honey, cheeses, organic grains, quilts, artists, pottery, artisan cheeses, quilting, fresh produce, worm composters, cattle, chickens, goats, alpacas, bird-watching at the Heron reserve and more. So much to do in just one day!
Instead of a visit to the Farmer’s Market, come and meet the Farmers at their homes and see where the produce is grown and products are made! There are three market gardens, and several participants who you may have already met at local Markets, selling their wares. On Sampler Day, have fun visiting as you find them relaxed and at home on the farm telling stories of how it all came together to create their country lifestyles!
Folks can meet and greet the Goats and Alpacas at Redeemers’ Garden, and the Black Angus Cow/Calf herd as well as free range Chickens at home on the farm at Greendale Pottery (with Holly potting at the wheel, of course) and enjoy the bee-hive demos at Chilliwack Honey. There’ll be beautiful gardens to tour, including the popular Five Acre Ranch and Greendale Herb & Vine, with their edible garden tour and new country shop in the barn. Be sure to stop at the Quilt Shop, the Organic Grain Mill, the Cheese Shop (right on the dairy farm!) and don’t miss the Shop Shack.
For Sampler Day only, Chilliwack’s Original Corn Maze gives free entry to everyone with a Sampler Button, ($2 donation and a chance to win a HUGE grand prize basket) and even if you don’t have time to explore the Maze, families can enjoy the hay bale maze, pumpkin patch, animal viewing area, picnic areas, hay rides and corn train rides!
So many new visitors tell us they had no idea we have so many interesting things to explore, artisans, and fun little shops right here in Greendale. Our Country Sampler Tour is a perfect opportunity to check it all out in one day.
Here at our stop on the tour, “Greendale Pottery & Country Guest House” (also home of Greendale Angus Beef) we will have lots going on with tours of the pottery studio and wheel throwing demonstrations all day, plus a meet and greet with our Black Angus Cow/Calf herd, and our free range chickens – educational signage posted all around the farm.
