The existing skate park at Twin Rinks on Tyson will be moved to the Webster Block.

new library for the south side of Chilliwack is closer to reality, after Council gave Second and Third Readings to the rezoning bylaw, following the Public Hearing on Tuesday night. Additionally, Council chose three design-build teams to submit proposals for the construction of the new facility.

The existing skate park on Tyson Road requires relocation and it was originally planned to be moved from its current site, onto the adjacent Twin Rinks property. Through the public consultation process, the City learned there was concern regarding the proposed size of the new skate park, as well as concern about possible conflicts between its use and other neighbouring activities. Staff revisited the location for the skate park and is recommending to Council that it be located in the planned city park within the new Webster block development.

The City would like to begin construction of the new skate park quickly, in order to ensure it is operational prior to decommissioning the existing location on Tyson Road. This process will involve consultation with skate park users and staff intends to bring forward a preliminary site layout plan to Council as soon as possible. The City will provide further updates as plans progress.
