uring the month of April, the team at Promontory Dental participated in the Give Back Smile Back program by donating their time and dental services to local families in need of oral health care.

Located in Chilliwack, the dental office is home to 10 team members who are committed to supporting the oral health of their community.

Dentist Dr. Yolanda Tiessens, explains the importance of maintaining your oral health for life.

"Studies show that oral health is directly related to your overall health," says Dr. Tiessens. "We want to educate, inform and support patients by giving them the tools they need to maintain healthy smiles, both inside and outside the dentist’s office."

On Thursday, April 20th, 2016, Promontory Dental opened its doors to provide dental care for individuals from Ruth & Naomi's Mission.

"Our community looks forward to initiatives such as the Give Back Smile Back program and we strongly believe that oral health is essential to an individual’s overall health and wellness," says Bill Raddatz, Executive Director of Ruth & Naomi's Mission. "Having healthy teeth is a great contributor to a healthy self-image, and this opportunity allows us to support those who need it most."

The program was further extended to support youth from the Cyrus Centre, a local resource centre for young men.

Dentist, Dr. Kelwin Wong and Practice Manager, Carolyn, explain the importance of giving back to the community.

"Oral Health Month is a great time to bring awareness to the issues surrounding oral health," says Dr. Wong.

"Give Back Smile Back is a wonderful opportunity for us to support the smiles of our community by offering our services to those who do not have regular access to dental care," adds Carolyn.

National Oral Health Month is organized by the Canadian Dental Association and supports the promotion of good oral health across the country. Here are some tips provided by the team to help you maintain your healthy smile.

•  Visit your dentist at least twice a year

•  Brush and floss your teeth twice a day (before breakfast and before bed)

•  Change your toothbrush once every 2-3 months
