Power to the People

Free day of speakers and workshops designed to empower May 9

By Sue Federspiel, City of Abbotsford/Photo Signý Wilson

he City of Abbotsford is hosting a free one-day symposium which will provide a unique training and networking opportunity to help local non-profit, sports, arts, and social services organizations build their capacity and skills and network with others in their industry.

Signý Wilson is the keynote speaker, and will be inspiring participants to help create cultures of engagement within organizations, so that staff, boards, and participants are able to give and receive the best.

In addition, Involve Abbotsford offers four different informative workshops by industry professionals. These sessions have been tailored to meet the unique requirements of community organizations and non-profit agencies.

• From Passion to Proof – Colette Squires, The Power of Program Evaluation
• Out with the Waste! – Alison Martens, Efficiency Through Continuous Improvement
• How to Be a Council Delegate – Bill Flitton,  What You Need to Know
• Special Events 101 – Alanna Carmichael, Barb Roberts, Carla Soltis

The workshops provide important information to meet strategic goals, and open more doors of opportunity and wider engagement. Participants can choose between workshop choices in the day, enjoy a light lunch and have an opportunity for more specific advice and information from the presenters.
