Trash by the Truckload

Locals pull together and remove 10 tons of junk from Gill Bar

Released by Fraser Riverkeeper

Concerned residents at Gill Bar last week for the annual cleanup.

n March 28th we hosted our 8th Annual Fraser River shoreline cleanup in partnership with the amazing folks at Woodtone. Over the past 8 years, with the help of incredible volunteers, we have removed over 50 tonnes of garbage from Fraser River shorelines.

While this is an amazing accomplishment, we are saddened by the amount of trash dumped on our shorelines each year.

Our hope is that through education, signage, general community awareness and hands-on work such as cleanups, we can reduce the amount of illegal dumping in these important areas.

Huge thanks to our incredible sponsors Rotz Disposal, Progressive Waste, Restaurant 62the Vancouver AquariumThe City of ChilliwackIGA ChilliwackThe Chilliwack Water Store and Starbucks.

Check out all of the amazing photos from the day on our Facebook page!

It doesn't end with this cleanup!

Keep your eyes out for the new Fraser Valley Illegal Dumping Alliance (FVIDA), we will have lots of exciting things to announce over the next few months.

Miss our cleanup? Looking for more ways to help our shoreline?

Join our friends the Chilliwack Vedder River Cleanup Society on April 18th (this Saturday) at the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve at 8:30am for a shoreline cleanup and BBQ. It's going to be an incredible day! More details here.
