The full moon as it looked over Chilliwack Thursday. The Voice added the red tint.

hilliwack Moonwatchers, don't despair, the sky may break up just long enough to catch the Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse on Saturday in whole or in part.

That eclipse begins at 12:15 a.m. approximately and lasts 3 hours and 29 minutes with a total blackout at 2 a.m. PST.

It's called a "Blood Moon" because as the moon meanders into the earth's shadow toward the total eclipse, it tends to glow red from small amounts of light passing through our atmosphere.

The is the third eclipse this year in what astronomers call a "tetrad."
