Possible Firebug On The Loose

Chilliwack fire department kept busy chasing fires overnight Tuesday

Fire crews extinguish burning bushes nearby while police seek the person(s) responsible.


he City of Chilliwack Fire Department and the RCMP were kept busy chasing blazes overnight Tuesday after an arsonist set at least three bush and tree fires.


Just after 1 A.M., fire crews responded to a fire in the 2400 block of Maple Ave. involving a detached garage. Itís unknown if this was a related fire, however initial reports were that an accelerant was used to light a tree, which then may have spread to the garage. Crews managed to contain and extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported.


At around 2:30 A.M. fire crews were called out to a shrub fire near Victory Fish and Chips on Yale at Hocking.


A short while later, at around 3 A.M., fire was dispatched again to a shrubbery fire, this time involving three, eight foot shrubs set alight on the Toyota car lot bordering the church. Crews attended and found the fire had burned itself out.
