Election 2011

Greens Face Dairy Farmer Bias

Hoskins unfazed at being excluded from meeting

Submitted by Jamie Hoskins, Green Party

o tell you the truth, I'm not all that shocked that I was excluded from this debate. We Greens have a bit of experience with a small group of men making a decision to exclude us from debates. It happened to Elizabeth May at the national leaders' debates so I am in good company.

If anything, I consider it an honour to be left out. I have spent this whole election campaigning on behalf of the people who have typically been left out of Canadian politics. People like the 41% of Canadians that are so disenfranchised by our political system that they didn't feel it worth voting in the last election, our First Nations brothers and sisters who have
received next to no mention in this election, or the young voters who, until they got the Rick Mercer "bump" for making viral videos, have been all but excluded from political discourse in this country. I am also honoured because I get to stand on the outside along with all of the issues that have been ignored. Issues like climate change, last year's BP oil gusher, jobs,
nuclear meltdown in Japan, war in Libya, and the casino capitalism that is threatening economies here and around the world.

They say that you can tell a lot about a person by the company that he/she keeps. If it came down to a choice, I'd cast my lot with the folks who are left out any day!
