Honouring the Fallen

Law Enforcement Memorial Service Sept 28

Released by Cst. Ian Macdonald, Abbotsford Police Department

n Sunday, September 28 at 1:00 pm, the British Columbia Law Enforcement Memorial Service will take place at Rotary Stadium in Exhibition Park, at 32470 Haida Drive, Abbotsford.

The event will bring together police officers, peace officers, families and citizens from around the province to honor the law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice for their communities.

The attendees will include Deputy Premier Rich Coleman, RCMP Deputy Commissioner Craig Callens, and Abbotsford Police Chief Bob Rich.

This year’s event is being co-hosted by the Langley RCMP and the Abbotsford Police Department.

“British Columbians grieve when tragedy strikes police and peace officers in the line of duty,” said Deputy Premier Rich Coleman. “It’s important that we honour and remember not only the sacrifices made to further our safety, but the enduring losses faced by the families, colleagues and friends of fallen officers.”

“The partnership between the Abbotsford Police Department and the Langley RCMP to co-host this year’s British Columbia Law Enforcement Memorial is an example of how close-knit the law enforcement community truly is,” says A/Commr Dan Malo, Officer in Charge of the Lower Mainland RCMP. “When a police or peace officer is injured or killed in the line of duty it affects each of us, and each of the communities in which we serve, which is why we gather each year to honour those that have made the ultimate sacrifice.”

“The BC Law Enforcement Memorial is an incredibly important event, and the Abbotsford Police Department is proud to be part of it. The memorial allows police and peace officers to gather together to honour our fallen colleagues and their families.  It also demonstrates the need to continue working to improve public safety in all of our communities.”  said Chief Constable Bob Rich, Abbotsford Police Department.
