Helicopter and ground crews fight blaze for hours

Released by Sue Attrill/Voice file photo

The dry log sort as it looked from high above the Fraser River Saturday afternoon. Thanks to Jane Boles from Vancouver who wanted to share this awesome photo with Voice readers.

t 10:43 a.m. on Saturday, a Chilliwack RCMP officer spotted a fire in amongst the stacked logs on the Fraser River at Harrison Mills near the Sasquatch Inn.

The fire spread rapidly and more fire fighters were brought in from Agassiz and eventually a helicopter with a bucket was used to to extinguish it.

There were unconfirmed reports that a small camping tent was found somewhere on the sort. Chris Wilson, Manager of Emergency Services at Fraser Valley Regional District, could not be reached for comment.
