Paramedics work on a gunshot victim behind police tape early Saturday morning at the Chilliwack Motor Inn.

he Chilliwack Motor Inn at 8120 Young Rd. exploded into chaos just after 4:30 a.m. on Saturday when an "elderly" male was shot while reportedly sitting in a car.

RCMP responded to a 9-1-1 call from a woman who described the scene to police, but said that she was too afraid to even look up. The victim could be heard yelling repeatedly in the background that he'd been shot.

The man's moans were still audible fifteen minutes later as the paramedics worked  frantically on him. Once stabilized, he was transported to hospital. No word on his condition.

There were no reports of anyone else being injured, and no word if the gunman has been arrested.

Chilliwack RCMP would not comment but told The Voice on the telephone that they would be issuing a statement later.

There are unconfirmed reports that the victim has a history of robbery and firearms offences, and is banned from a 300 km. radius of Sault. Ste. Marie in Ontario.

The Chilliwack Motor Inn is a trouble spot for police who are there frequently.

Watch this space for more details as they emerge later.
