Once they start, four-storey apartment fires are difficult for crews to extinguish
Chilliwack fire fighters check a wooden structure for fire Saturday.
hen a fire starts in a four-storey wooden apartment structure, the fire department knows they only have so much time to stop it before it spreads deep inside. So they have to move fast.
At 9 a.m., Chilliwack Fire Department crews were dispatched to just such a building in the 9000-block of Birch St. They knew what type of structure it was beforehand, so they were able to roll in ladder trucks quickly.
Residents were evacuated when crews arrived.
Fire fighters checked the structure closely. It may have been electrical in nature.
