alloween Storytime & Craft at the Chilliwack Library, Tuesday, Oct 28th, 10:30 AM-11:00 PM

 

Introduce kids to the love of books and language with a not-so-spooky Halloween Storytime and craft! Children and caregivers will enjoy interactive stories, songs, rhymes, and more. Storytime prepares children to learn to read. Kids are invited to come in their Halloween costumes.

Mental Silence Meditation

Sardis Library, Mondays, Sep 8th – Oct 30th, (excluding Oct 13th), 7:00pm-8:00pm

Mental silence is the experience of inner silence which brings a peaceful and clearer awareness. It is easy to learn, and with the guidance of Sergiy Fadyeyev, can generate significant results quickly. Mental Silence can reduce stress and have a profound balancing effect on physical, mental and emotional dimensions of the students, enhancing both resilience and total well being.

Sardis Library Quilting Group

Bring your quilting projects, sewing machine, and hand work and join the Sardis Library Quilting Group for a day of quilting in the comfort of the library. This group meets weekly to quilt and socialize. Please note that this is a non-instructional drop-in group. Space is limited so please bring hand work in case the tables are occupied. Don’t forget to bring your lunch and coffee mug!

 

Toddler Meetup

Rainy day and your toddler is climbing the walls? Need to connect with other local parents of little ones? New to town and looking for free family friendly events? Chilliwack Library hosts Toddler Time, a weekly free event that features space for toddlers accompanied by parents to play with toys, books, and meet up with their friends or make new ones. For ages 18 months -  3 years (younger siblings welcome to tag along). Each session will begin with a librarian-led storytime.

Join a Citizens Services Specialist from Service Canada to discover the many benefits available under each program. You will hear about Survivor/Death Benefits, Canada Pension Disability Benefits, Guaranteed Income Supplement, Allowance, and Allowance for the Survivor. You will also learn about eligibility, when to apply, how to access, required documentation and who to contact for help.

It's the Silly Season! There Are Puppets at the Library!

Leaves may fall down and the cold wind may blow, but at the Yarrow Library there's a puppet show! See Master Puppeteer and Storyteller Elspeth Bowers present a program of stories, songs, and puppets. Fun for all!

 

 

Health and Wellness Workshops: Technology and Aging

Many recent technological advances are of use to older adults. This workshop describes what is available now and what the future promises to provide. This program is presented by the Council of Senior Citizen's Organization of BC (COSCO) Senior's Health and Wellness Institute.

 

O.W.L. Orphaned Wildlife Society

The Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society (O.W.L.) will present and informative program about birds of prey found locally in the Fraser Valley. Learn about birds and their prey, and the roles they play in our environment. Live birds will be on display.

 

Sardis Library Genealogy Group

Would you like to improve your skills using genealogy software such as Ancestry Library Edition? Are you curious about how to locate free online information to research your family history? Would you like to share ideas and learn new tips and tricks about how to solve your research roadblocks and learn the history of the area and era you are researching? If you answered yes, please drop-in to the Sardis Library Genealogy Group. The group formed to keep their momentum going after taking the ElderCollege “Beginners Genealogy” course, but all are welcome to attend. Bring your laptop and connect to free Wi-Fi at the library, or use the computers at the library to connect to Ancestry Library Edition after the meeting. This group is facilitated by Marlene Dance, UFV ElderCollege Instructor, and assisted by Katie England. Sardis Digital Clickers

Are you a new photographer with your first DSLR or a seasoned photographer with a new toy? Join Sardis Library’s new Camera Club, the Sardis Digital Clickers. This drop-in club meets once a month to explore digital camera settings and different photography styles. Be prepared to ask questions, answer questions, share your successes and your failures, and enjoy all elements of photography in a friendly supportive setting. All types of digital cameras are welcome, but the primary focus with be on DSLR. Oh and don’t forget to bring your camera and coffee or tea. Facilitated by Chris of ChrisTopher Films. Join author Sanford Osler for a fascinating look at the ancient and seemingly simple watercraft that helped shape British Columbia. Sanford has been involved with canoes from childhood and has paddled in virtually all the types of craft covered in his new book Canoe Crossings. He’ll share beautiful images and other highlights from his book, including stories about colourful local canoeing characters. Canoe Crossings will appeal to anyone who has ever sought adventure, found solace, or seen beauty in a canoe.

 

eReader Workshop

Learn how to borrow free eBooks from the library through FVRL OverDrive. This workshop is for those using wireless devices and tablets.

 

 

 

I Love My Library Day!

Come on in to the Chilliwack Library for an “I Love My Library Day” Party!

Come and experiment with a selection of tablets/eReaders at our Technology Petting Zoo OR bring your own device and get some individual help downloading eBooks and digital magazines from 10-4.

We’ve got Community coffee from 1-3.  Help yourself to a free cup of coffee and a treat while you browse our great collection of books, DVDS, newspapers and magazines.It’s a family affair for this Pro-D day. Bring the kids along for a LEGO build from 1-3 pm. We have the LEGO collection, just bring your imagination!
