MEN RALLY AROUND WOMEN'S
Raising awareness about the root
causes of abuse
ANN DAVIS TRANSITION SOCIETY
This year they decided to give back to an organization that has really helped people that they know over the years, Ann Davis Transition Society.
They held the event at the Triple Play Pub on May 5, where owner, Joanne Thompson shared that she has a family connection to the real Ann Davis from the 1920’s who started by helping women and children fleeing violence from her own home.
Patti MacAhonic said, “There is a growing body of work in research that shows that men and boys can be effective in diminishing domestic violence and Ann Davis Transition Society has been a front runner in BC in adopting innovative approaches that involve men and boys in domestic violence prevention. The idea is that by addressing the root causes, these programs can stop domestic violence from occurring in the first place. It is so heartening to see the initiative by these caring local men to be leaders in making a difference and we thank them very much!”
Men’s involvement in preventing domestic violence in their families, workplaces and communities can be part of the global effort to promote safety and equality for women, and to end victimization in all its forms.
Ann Davis Transition Society provides education, prevention and support services to those affected by abuse or violence. Our vision is to see communities free of violence and abuse.
