he Faculty of Environment at SFU is proud to launch a new series of environmental sustainability workshops for managers and champions in organizations, public agencies, not for profits, government and business who are leading collaborative change such as creating a strong vision, conserving energy, reducing waste, becoming climate resilient organizations and setting policy for procurement, environmental resource management and reporting.


Procurement through a Sustainability Lens - Friday, July 8, 2016, 9:00-4:30
How an organization buys, sells, and invests is the ultimate driver of a greener, low carbon economy. If you work in government, the private or non-profit sectors and are responsible for procurement, you have the power to change lives. In this workshop, you will learn how to strategically align purchasing with local objectives and sustainability values, while working within the confines of trade agreements.

 

Greening your Organization: Getting Started - Friday, June 24, 2016, 9:00-4:30
This workshop introduces incentive-based emissions reduction practices, metrics and measurement toolkits and resources for implementing environmental and social impact. You will learn specific strategies to aid in setting sustainability goals in your organization including directing purchasing power towards sustainability goals and understanding the broader cultural shift in how “green business” and “social enterprise” are viewed within the economy and public policy.


Natural Resources Planning Using "Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation" - Friday, July 15, 2016, 9:00-4:30
Learn how to navigate the tensions between planning for healthy natural environments and immediate community land use with collaborative multi-benefit strategic planning. Participants will be introduced to the five-step adaptive management framework referred to as “Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation”.
